ALS (Amyotrophic Lateral Sclerosis), also known as Lou Gehrig's Disease, is an incurable
fatal neuromuscular disease characterized by progressive muscle weakness, resulting in
paralysis. The disease attacks nerve cells in the brain and spinal cord. Motor neurons,
which control the movement of voluntary muscles, deteriorate and eventually die. When
the motor neurons die, the brain can no longer initiate and control muscle movement. Because
muscles no longer receive the messages they need in order to function, they gradually weaken
and deteriorate.

2005 ALS Walk in Ocean City, NJ
We were asked by the ALS Chapter of Philadelphia to join them at the 2005 ALS
walk in Ocean City, NJ. During this walk ALS raised over $190,000.00!
About Lou Gherig
Of all the players in baseball history, none possessed as much talent and humility as Lou Gehrig. His
accomplishments on the field made him an authentic American hero, and his tragic early death made him a legend.
Gehrig's later glory came from humble beginnings. He was born on June 19, 1903 in New York City. The son
of German immigrants, Gehrig was the only one of four children to survive. His mother, Christina, worked
tirelessly, cooking, cleaning houses and taking in laundry to make ends meet. His father, Heinrich, often
had trouble finding work and had poor health.
